I have worked in the Canadian book trade for more than 20 years – first in house in marketing, then as an independent bookseller (both new and antiquarian) and freelance editor. In summer 2007, I completed SFU's Book Editing Immersion program in Vancouver. I have edited fiction and non-fiction manuscripts for Canadian publishers in Ontario and BC as well as for private individuals including professors, hobbyists and independent scholars.

My clients appreciate my ability to comprehend their thinking, analyze their writing and work cooperatively to focus and improve their manuscripts.  A first-time author wrote to his publisher in 2008, "I want to tell you how helpful Betsy was to me. ... I realize in hindsight that what I first sent you nine months ago was not good enough.  I was upset by the criticism but now having gone through the editing process I am humbled.  Thanks for your patience with me."
