John Eerkes-Medrano, who edits a variety of trade books and law journals, discussed his work as a freelance editor in trade and educational publishing for some of Canada's leading publishers and government ministries. He is a co-author of the booklet So, You Want To Be An Editor, published by the Editors' Association of Canada and has been an instructor in SFU's book editing immersion workshop. In 2002 he edited the report of the Walkerton Inquiry.

Bisia Belina presented "Self-care for Twisted Editors: How to Get out of Our Minds and Into Our Bodies." In this mini-workshop, Bisia helped members learn to "recharge our batteries, release our stress, balance our nervous system and receive spiritual nourishment, using everyday tools of breath, sound, rhythm and movement." Instead of a regular meeting in October, PEAVI hosted a 3-hour workshop on "Onscreen Editing with Microsoft Word". Writer and editor Derek K. Miller helped participants build a solid knowledge of Word's on-screen editing features during this October 2 event at the University of Victoria.

PEAVI's web administrator Paula Gaube helped launch the 2004-2005 season and its theme, "In line, online, out there", with a presentation on PEAVI's new Website. Members learned about the benefits of being online, and were encouraged to bring comments and suggestions on how to improve the Website.
